Clarius Sells Visual Studio Division To Xamarin Inc.

Buenos Aires, MAY 27th, 2014

Clarius Consulting announced today that it has signed a definitive agreement to sell its Visual Studio Extensibility (VSX) Division to Xamarin Inc., the company that empowers more than 600,000 developers to build fully native mobile apps for all major device platforms in Visual Studio.

Clarius’ VSX Division was formed a decade ago back in 2004, and has been working on tooling for Visual Studio since Visual Studio 2003, tackling all major versions up to Visual Studio 2013.

Often identified as world-best hardcore VSX experts, both inside and outside Microsoft, members of Clarius’ VSX Division successfully executed dozens of very challenging extensibility projects for different customers like Microsoft, Atmel, Volvo and Thomson Reuters helping them move their tooling experience to the next level. Over the years, Clarius VSX Division was also instrumental in helping define and implement Microsoft's in-product guidance and automation, with projects like the Guidance Automation Toolkit, various Software Factories, Feature Builder and NuPattern.

Some of the most popular public Visual Studio extensions developed by Clarius’ VSX Division includes Default Browser Switcher, Visual T4 and Debugger Canvas.

This sale will allow Clarius Consulting to focus its efforts on its other areas of expertise, including Cloud, Embedded and Mobile.

Daniel Cazzulino, former CTO and co-founder of Clarius Consulting, stated,

With Clarius’ VSX Division, we were able to deliver effective Visual Studio tooling for a decade to both Microsoft and enterprise customers worldwide, but it has mostly been for the benefit of closed in-house teams.

Joining Xamarin will allow us to make a positive impact on millions of developers, giving them a delightful experience inside of a state of the art and beloved IDE.
